Thomas Kerbl

Thomas Kerbl (born November 16, 1965 in Kirchdorf an der Krems ) is an Austrian conductor, pianist, university professor and dean for artistic studies at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.

Life

Thomas Kerbl's musical career began with piano studies at the Bruckner Conservatory, today's Anton Bruckner Private University, which he graduated with honors as the youngest candidate at the age of 17. This was followed by extensive concert activities as a soloist and accompanist . Piano concerts from Mozart to Martinů , more than 500 recitals in Europe and the 16 evenings of the cyclical complete performance of the piano, chamber music and lieder works by Claude Debussy brought the almost 20-year-old artist great recognition in 1986/87.

At the age of 27 he was entrusted with the direction of the Lied oratorio class at the former Bruckner Conservatory and in 2005 the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz appointed him director of the “Institute for Singing and Voice”. In addition, he heads the two master’s courses in “Lied and Oratorio” and the “Opera Studio”. Since 2009 he has been the dean for artistic studies.

Since 1995 his work as a conductor has intensified and is now, in addition to intensive Franz Schubert research, his artistic focus. Thomas Kerbl, in cooperation with the Forum St. Severin ( Catholic Academic Association of the Diocese of Linz ) and the Linz Brucknerhaus, provides performances of passions and oratorios.

The repertoire of Thomas Kerbl as a conductor includes the important standard works such as the Johannes Passion BWV 245 by Johann Sebastian Bach , The Messiah HWV 56 by Georg Friedrich Handel or The Creation Hob. XXI: 2 by Joseph Haydn . He has directed numerous first performances in Upper Austria, such as the Brockes Passion and the St. Luke Passion by Georg Philipp Telemann or the St. John Passion by Alessandro Scarlatti . In 2006, the Anton Bruckner University took a performance of the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastiani as an opportunity to Thomas Kerbl the university professor to habilitation . Kerbl lives in Eidenberg .
