Plaintel ( Breton : Pleneventer in Gallo : Pyentè ) is a French municipality with 4344 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Côtes-d'Armor in the region of Brittany . It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Brieuc and is the capital (French: chef-lieu ) of the canton of Plaintel . The inhabitants are called Plaintelais (es) .
geography
Plaintel is about ten kilometers south-southwest of Saint-Brieuc . Plaintel is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Julien in the north, Plédran in the east and northeast, Saint-Carreuc in the east and southeast, Plœuc-L'Hermitage with L'Hermitage-Lorge in the south, Saint-Brandan in the southwest and Plaine-Haute in the Northwest.
The Route Départementale 700 and the Saint-Brieuc – Pontivy railway line run along the town in a north-south direction , both connecting Saint-Brieuc with Loudéac .
history
In 1163 the Ecclesia Sancti Numenteri is mentioned for the place (German: Church of Saint Numenter). From this the Breton plenary table developed.
