Hillion ( Breton Helion ) is a commune with 4137 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Côtes-d'Armor in the region of Brittany ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint-Brieuc and the canton of Trégueux .
geography
The municipality is located on the English Channel coast, in the bay of Saint-Brieuc , around 80 kilometers northwest of Rennes . Hillion lies with its northern part on a peninsula which is surrounded in the west by the Anse d'Yffiniac and in the east by the Anse de Morieux . Beyond the Anse d'Yffiniac are the towns of Langueux , Saint-Brieuc and Plérin . Immediate neighboring communities in the southern part are Morieux in the east, Coëtmieux and Pommeret in the southeast and Yffiniac in the south.
The river Gouessant flows into the Anse de Morieux on the eastern border of the municipality . Its tributary Évron runs further to the southeast . The southwest area is drained by a small stream called Cré , which flows into the Anse d'Yffiniac.
The entire bay around Hillion, as well as some of the shore zones are under nature protection as Réserve naturelle de la Baie de Brieuc , parts of which are registered as Natura 2000 protection zones under FR5300066 and FR5310050.
Transport links
The eponymous place is due to its location away from national traffic connections, only the southeast of the municipality is crossed by high-ranking roads. Here run the Route National 12 , which from Rennes to Brest leads, as well as the department of road D786, along the coast to Saint-Malo runs.
