The N12 is a French national road that was established between Trappes and Brest in 1824. It goes back to route 13 impériale . Their length was 574 kilometers. In 1856 it was extended to Brest-Recouvrance via a bridge over the Penfeld . In 1949 there was a change in course between Mayenne and Rennes . To do this, it took over parts of the N155 and N177 . In return, the N157 and N162 took over the vacated sections of the N12. It was placed on bypass roads as far as possible along its entire route, as well as being expanded into expressways. In 2004 it was graduated between Fougères and Rennes, as the A84 was in operation at the same time.

The N12 ^A was 1962 to 1973, a five-kilometer side branch of the N12, between Bédée and Montfort-sur-Meu ran. It was created to compensate for the partial gradation of the N164bis.

N412

From 1978 to 1986 the N412 was a side branch of the N12, which lay on the old route of the N12 through Saint-Brieuc .

N1012

The N1012 is a branch of the N12 that emerged from its old route in 2011 when it was moved to a bypass that bypasses the junction at junction 11 of the Rennes ring road.

N2012

The N2012 was about old routes of the N12 through localities that were given a bypass. In 2006 these old routes were phased out.
