Guipavas ( Breton Gwipavaz ) is a French commune in western Brittany in the Finistère department with 14,482 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). It belongs to the community association Brest Métropole in the metropolitan area of Brest with about 210,000 inhabitants.
geography
The city center of Brest is eight kilometers (km) to the west. The area of the commune of Guipavas, however, with its westernmost districts Coataudon and Tourbian between the communes of Le Relecq-Kerhuon and Gouesnou, extends right up to the urban settlement area of Brest. The Rue de l'Eau Blanche and, in its continuation, the Stang-Alar stream form the western border between Guipavas and the city of Brest. The larger area of the botanical garden in Vallon du Stang-Alar belongs to the municipality of Guipavas, as does the Moulin Blanc bathing beach . In this westernmost part of the municipality, now largely developed by new development areas, there has also been the greatest increase in population in the recent past.
The distance to Paris is approximately 500 kilometers.
Adjacent municipalities are (clockwise from the north): Plabennec , Kersaint-Plabennec , Saint-Divy , La Forest-Landerneau , Le Relecq-Kerhuon, Brest and Gouesnou.

To the north-west of the municipality there is a junction with the N 12 / E 50 expressway (Brest - Rennes ); south of the E 60 (Brest - Nantes ) can be reached after a few kilometers.
The nearest regional railway stations are in Le Relecq-Kerhuon and Brest. The train station in Brest is also the terminus of the TGV Atlantique .
The Brest / Guipavas Aeroport regional airport is located two kilometers north of the center of the municipality.
Since 2012, the westernmost part of the municipality of Guipavas from Keradrien-Froutven has been directly connected to the city center of Brest by tram line A.
