Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau ( Breton Lambaol-Gwitalmeze ) is a municipality with 838 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Finistère department in Brittany in France . It is part of the canton of Plabennec . The municipality belongs to the Communauté de communes du Pays d'Iroise .
The name of the community is derived from Lann (monastery) and Paol ( Paulinus Aurelianus ). Former names are Monasterium sive vulgato nomine Lanna Pauli in Plebe Telmedovia (884), Landapauli Ploedalmezeu (1467) and Lambaol Guitalmezeau (1787).
geography
Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau is located about 27 kilometers northwest of Brest directly on the English Channel . Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Pabu , Plouguin and Ploudalmézeau . The municipality lies between the small coastal rivers Kouer er Frout in the west and Ribl in the east.
history
Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau can be traced back to a hermitage founded by Paulinus Aurelianus (in place of the church).
The first Breton school ( Diwan ) was founded in Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau in 1977 on the initiative of Reun L'Hostis .

- Church of St. Paulinus Aurelianus : The building from the 16th century was partially destroyed by lightning in the middle of the 19th century and then rebuilt (with the help of Ernest Le Guerranic ). The sacred building has been a French cultural monument since 1926 .
- Rocervo mansion : The mansion and pigeon tower are very easy to see from the D28 département road , which connects Ploudalmézeau with Lannilis .
