Portsall district

Amoco Cadiz anchor

The district of Portsall (Breton Porsall ) is located a few kilometers northwest of the main town on the Côte des Abers . The place achieved notoriety when on March 16, 1978 the tanker Amoco Cadiz broke down not far from the coast and the oil spill first reached the small natural harbor of the place before spreading over 300 kilometers of coastline within a few days. A huge, half-broken anchor of Amoco Cadiz at the end of the pier is a reminder of the accident to this day. When there is low spring water in spring and autumn, the remains of the wreck can sometimes be seen sticking out of the water surface.

Here are the megalithic complexes Allée couverte von Ribl and Le Guilliguy , a " dolmen á coudé" close to the sea on a headland above the port of Portsall.

Île Carn

The megalithic complex on the Île Carn was built close to the Cairn of Barnenez (around 4200 BC) and is one of the oldest megalithic complexes in the world.
