Tréouergat (Breton: Treouergad) is a French commune with 341 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the Finistère department in the Brittany region . It belongs to the canton of Saint-Renan . Tréouergat belongs to the Communauté de communes du Pays d'Iroise .

geography

The community is around 12 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean and around 15 kilometers north of Brest .

history

The parish used to be part of the neighboring parish of Plouguin . Earlier names were Treffgouescat (1389), Treffgoezcat (1467), Treffgouezcat (1611), Trefgouergat (1641 and 1696), Treouergat or Trefgouescat (1697).

During the Second World War there was a not insignificant group of the Resistance ( FFI ) in Tréouergat , which was involved in the liberation of the city of Brest. This group, which also included 164 Russians, erected a memorial in Kergoff in 1965.
