Plougastel-Daoulas ( Breton Plougastell-Daoulaz ) is a French commune in northwest Brittany in the Finistère department with 13,337 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
geography
Plougastel-Daoulas is located on the Atlantic coast on the Bay of Brest.
The city center of Brest is 8 kilometers to the north-west and Paris about 480 kilometers to the east (as the crow flies ).
history
From June 1940 to summer / autumn 1944 northern France was occupied by Wehrmacht troops. After the Western Allies landed in Normandy , the battle for Brittany raged in the area . On August 30, 1944, the Plougastel Peninsula was liberated.

economy
Plougastel is known nationwide for its tomato and strawberry cultivation of the Gariguette variety. There is also a strawberry museum in Plougastel-Daoulas.
traffic
The municipality has an exit on the expressway E 60 (Brest - Nantes ) and at Brest there are others on the E 50 (Brest - Rennes ).
Brest train station is the terminus of the TGV Atlantique to Paris and the regional train lines to Rennes and Nantes.
The Aéroport de Brest Bretagne regional airport is located near Brest .
