Stephan Kaußen

Stephan Kaußen (* 1969 in Aachen ) is a German freelance journalist, university lecturer and moderator. He is also an expert on contemporary South African history and politics.

Life

Kaußen has been working as a journalist since he was 18. He studied political science, history and international cooperation at the RWTH in Aachen, where he received his doctorate in 2003/4 with a dissertation on the reconciliation process in South Africa under Nelson Mandela .

Since 2001 he has been a live reporter for the WDR 2 radio station in the Bundesliga, Champions and Europa League, tennis, ice hockey and athletics. Since October 2010, Kaußen has also held a professorship for sports and political journalism at the private Macromedia University in Cologne.

He was one of the initiators of the “Partnership with Kick 2006-2010” (InWEnt, GIZ ), which made broad expertise of German experts available for the soccer World Cup in South Africa.

Kaußen's areas of expertise are international politics, South Africa and sports. “Social development through sport” is one of the main motifs of his involvement with major international sporting events, while “humanism” and “altruism” are the focus of his teaching activities. His book Europe Turning Times (2015) deals with the European refugee and systemic crisis. It discusses the current relapse into national reflexes in historical derivation. He also criticizes the business administration and RTLisation of western society, i.e. increasing egoism and the trivialisation of media and consumers.

Kaußen moderated various football world and European championships at fan festivals (e.g. in Berlin 2010, Hamburg 2008), in the South African embassy (with Desmond Tutu, among others ) or as part of numerous company (Telekom Berlin 2009), art, trade fair , Sports or club events.
