Valentin Taratynow ( Russian Валентин Таратынов , English transcription Valentin Taratynov ; born June 24, 1948 ) is a former Soviet middle -distance runner who had specialized in the 800-meter distance .

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Sofia in 1971, the Soviet team with the line-up of Taratynow, Stanislaw Meschtscherskich , Alexei Taranow and Viktor Semjaschkin won the 4 x 800 meter relay and set an indoor world record with 7: 17.8 minutes. 1972 Taratynow won at the European Indoor Championships in Sofia with the Soviet quartet silver in the 4-by-720-meter relay.

He set his personal best of 1: 47.8 minutes on July 19, 1971 in Moscow .
