Alexei Taranov

Alexei Taranow ( Russian Алексей Таранов , English transcription Aleksey Taranov ; born August 8, 1946 ) is a former Soviet middle -distance runner who had specialized in the 800-meter distance .

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1971 in Sofia, the Soviet team won the 4 x 800 meter relay with Valentin Taratynow , Stanislaw Meschtscherskich , Taranow and Viktor Semjaschkin and set an indoor world record with 7: 17.8 minutes. In 1972 Taranow won silver in the 4 x 720 meter relay at the European Indoor Championships in Sofia with the Soviet quartet.

He set his personal best of 1: 47.3 minutes on July 19, 1971 in Moscow .
