The N23 A was a French national road that branched off from the N23 in Le Mans in 1868 (then ran through the city center) through the Avenue du Général Leclerc to the Le Mans train station. The high-quality connection had become necessary because of the importance of the train station. In 1973 it was first downgraded to Départementstraße 312 - today it is only a municipal road. The Le Mans tram has been driving through the street since 2007.
