The Route nationale 83 , or N 83 or RN 83 for short , is a French national road .

Current course of the road

The current national road runs in three sections: on the one hand it connects the motorway 35 and the national road 353 near Illkirch-Graffenstaden , on the other two sections of the A 35 between Sélestat and Colmar - this is to be expanded to the motorway and become part of the A 35 - and the third the national road 57 at Besançon and highway 391 at Poligny .

Historic course of the road

The historic national road was laid in 1824 in two sections, which were divided by the national road 73 , between Illkirch-Graffenstaden and Lyon . It goes back to the route 101 impériale. Their total length was 399.5 kilometers.

In 1843 it was relocated to a new route between Péronnas and Crépieux-la-Pape . The national road 84 then took over the section between Meximieux and Crépieux-la-Pape. The total length was then 390.5 kilometers. Between Strasbourg and Burnhaupt-le-Bas , it was expanded almost completely to become a local expressway. A dual carriageway and bypasses were also built between Besançon and Lyon.

In 1978 it took over the section of the national road 73 between Besançon and Clerval , which it had previously divided into two. In 2006 the most extensive graduation was made except for three sections.

Side branches

N 83a

The Route nationale 83 A , or N 83 A or RN 83 A for short , was a side branch of the N 83 within Caluire-et-Cuire from 1933, which ran parallel to it on the banks of the Rhône. In 1957 it became a municipal road. 1966 to 1973 the number was used again for a connecting expressway between the A 35 and N 83 near Illkirch-Graffenstadten. This became National Road 283 in 1978 . From 1976 to 2006 there was a third N 83 A , which ran as a side branch from the N 83 to the N 19 and also connected junction 14 of the Autobahn 36 . Today it is known as Départementsstraße 1083 . It was also referred to as N 1083 1 .

N 83e

The Route nationale 83 E , N 83 E or RN 83 E for short , was a branch of the N 83, which ran from 1957 to 1973 within Lyon between the N 83 and the N 7 . It was located at the east portal of the Tunnel de la Croix-Rousse. In 1978 it became part of the N 83.

N 283

The Route nationale 283 , or N 283 or RN 283 for short , was a branch of the N 83 from 1978 to 2006, which connected it to the A 35 at Illkirch-Graffenstaden. It was created by renumbering the N 83 A and then became the N 83 in 2006.

N 583

The national route 583 , N 583 or RN 583 for short , was in its second definition a side branch of the N 83, which ran from this as an eastern arterial road in Belfort until 2006 to junction 13 of Autobahn 36 .

N 1083

The Route nationale 1083 , or N 1083 or RN 1083 for short , is a branch of the N 83, which was opened in 1981 as a connection between the N 83 and the A 35 north of Sélestat . As a motorway feeder, it is still under state administration today, although the N 83 is now graduated at the junction.

N 1083.1

The Route nationale 1083 1 , or N 1083 1 or RN 1083 1 for short , was a side branch of the N 83, which ran from 1976 to 2006 from this to the national road 19 and also connected junction 14 of the A 36. Today it is known as Départementsstraße 1083. She was also known as N 83 A respectively.
