The Route nationale 144 , or N 144 or RN 144 for short , was a French national road .

The road was laid out in 1824 between Levet and Montluçon and goes back to Route 164 impériale. Its length was 74 kilometers. In 1933, the route was extended by a second section, which ran between Salbris and Saint-Doulchard . This section was 45 kilometers. The two sections were interrupted by national  roads 76 and  140 . In 1973 the section dedicated to the N 144 in 1933 was downgraded. In addition, the course of the N 140 between Bourges and Levet was marked as N 144, as well as the N 143 between Montluçon and Riom :

In 2006 the complete graduation took place.
