The Route nationale 138 , or N 138 or RN 138 for short , is a French national road .

history

The course of the road was determined in 1824 between Rouen and Saintes , consists of three sections and goes back to the route impériale 158. The total length was 426 kilometers.

In 1969 the route between Rouen and Moulineaux was changed with the opening of Autobahn 13 . The national road was led by a new road to the national road 840 and took over its guidance into Rouen. In 1978 the road was extended by a new route to Tours , for which it took over part of the national road 158 :

Two years before this was established, a road between Longué-Jumelles and Angers was designated National Road 138. This and the section between Longue-Jumelles and Montreuil-Bellay was taken over by national road 147 in 1978 . Furthermore, the section between Niort and Saintes was taken over by the national road 150 . The remaining sections were graduated in 1973.

In 2006, the N 138 was downgraded except for the connections between Autobahn 13 and National Road 338 and National Roads 338 and  15 . The N 338 is a dual carriageway that was created as an alternative to the N 138 as an access road to Rouen.
