Orival is a French municipality with 913 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Seine-Maritime department in the region of Normandy . Orival is located in the arrondissement of Rouen in the canton of Elbeuf . The inhabitants are called Orivalais .

geography

Orival is about 15 kilometers south-southwest of Rouen on the Seine . Orival is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Grand-Couronne in the north, Oissel in the east, Cléon in the east and south-east, Saint-Aubin-lès-Elbeuf in the south-east, Elbeuf in the south and La Londe in the north-west.

history

In 1195 Richard the Lionheart built a castle here, which was lost due to the inability of his brother Johann Ohneland and was razed in 1203.
