Yvecrique is a French municipality with 644 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Seine-Maritime department in the region of Normandy . It belongs to the arrondissement of Rouen and to the community association Plateau de Caux-Doudeville-Yerville, founded in 2016 . The inhabitants are called Yvecriquais (es) .
geography
The municipality of Yvecrique is located in the Pays de Caux , about 36 kilometers northwest of the city of Rouen and about 35 kilometers east of the coastal town of Fécamp . Neighboring communities of Yvecrique are Doudeville in the north, Amfreville-les-Champs in the northeast, Grémonville in the southeast, Étoutteville in the southwest and Harcanville in the northwest.
There are no surface rivers in the municipality; the precipitation seeps into the calcareous soil or forms several small lakes and ponds. With the exception of small trees in the west, the community area consists of arable and meadow areas. In addition to the eponymous village of Yvecrique , the municipality includes the hamlets of Gournay and Le Thuit as well as several scattered farms.
history
In the 12th century, the name of the village appears for the first time as Yvecriche . The name is of Scandinavian origin and is derived from Kirkja (= church ). The prefix comes from the Germanic name Ivo - probably the same namesake for the nearby small town of Yvetot .
