Le Trait is a French municipality with 4942 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Seine-Maritime in the region Normandy . It belongs to the arrondissement of Rouen and is part of the canton of Barentin . The inhabitants are called les Traitons .
geography
The community is located on the Seine , around 24 kilometers west of Rouen . It is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Wandrille-Rançon in the north, Sainte-Marguerite-sur-Duclair in the northeast, Duclair in the east, Yainville in the south, Heurteauville in the southwest, La Mailleraye-sur-Seine in the west and Notre-Dame-de -Bliquetuit in the northwest. The former Route nationale 182 runs through the municipality .
history
During the Middle Ages, a castle of the Counts of Maulèvrier existed here in a strategically important location between the arches of the Seine in the 12th century . From the 16th century, Le Trait has been proven to be an exchange post for couriers.

economy
The former shipbuilding industry has now collapsed. Pharmaceutical companies and companies now exist that produce equipment for offshore oil production.
