coat of arms

The Godshorn municipal coat of arms was designed by the heraldist and graphic artist Alfred Brecht , who designed all the coats of arms in the Hanover region. The approval of the coat of arms was granted on June 18, 1958 by the Lower Saxony Minister of the Interior .

Reasons for the coat of arms: Godshorn has not recorded any special events in its history. The historians have interpreted the place name as "settlement near a holy place or sacrificial site". In their view, they have been strengthened by a sacred tree that was attested in 1740 and which lives on in the field name “near the sacred tree”. When interpreting Godshorn, however, it is significant that the initial “G” is actually a Latin “W”, that is, Godshorn means something like Wodes or Wodanshorn . From this basis, a municipal coat of arms could be designed in which the national colors recur.

Economy and Infrastructure

economy

Two of Langenhagen's six industrial areas, and also the largest in terms of area in the city, are in the Godshorn district. The Frankenring, Münchner Strasse and Bayernstrasse business parks are in the south of the airport. The character of the area is shaped by suppliers for the airport, logistics service providers for air and ground freight as well as wholesalers and storage areas. Including the German expert AG with its headquarters and warehouse, as well as the warehouse and delivery logistics of Bofrost GmbH & Co. KG, as well as a large commercial vehicle center with workshops for Mercedes-Benz trucks and cars . Repha GmbH is based in the village and produces biological medicines against infections and biological antibiotics.

Since the incorporation in 1974, this industrial and commercial structure has made a significant contribution to Langenhagen being one of the municipalities in Lower Saxony with the highest commercial tax rates. That is why Godshorn is nicknamed "Pearl of Langenhagen" within Langenhagen.

The local supply can be described as good with two supermarkets, a pharmacy, stationery store, baker, butcher and several restaurants, albeit with a negative trend overall, as the banks, for example, have already agreed on closing dates.

Education and social institutions

In Godshorn there is a primary school with a special school branch of the Gutzmannschule with a focus on learning, two day-care centers, a village community center and a youth club.

Sports

An indoor swimming pool with a 25 meter track (hall) and 50 meter track (outdoor pool) was operated in the village. The outdoor swimming pool was the venue for annual qualifying competitions for the Lower Saxony swimming championships as well as a training location for airline cabin crew who are trained for rescue operations after a ditching. Here forces from the police, the German armed forces and the fire brigade trained for emergency situations. The operating company consisted of eight sports clubs from Langenhagen and the districts of Godshorn, Engelbostel, Schulenburg and Hanover - Vinnhorst. The bath was founded in the 1970s and received an annual grant from the city. This bath has been permanently closed since September 2017.

Godshorn is served by three GVH bus routes. They offer travel options to Engelbostel or Garbsen, as well as to Hanover Airport, the core city of Langenhagen, and Hanover / Stöcken.
