Bofrost Dienstleistungs GmbH und Co. KG ( spelling bofrost * ) is the largest direct distributor of frozen food and ice cream in Europe and currently operates in 13 countries. The company was founded in 1966 by Josef H. Boquoi in Issum on the Lower Rhine and today supplies its customers from 115 locations in Germany . The company's headquarters are in Straelen on the Lower Rhine.

In Germany, the market share in direct sales of frozen food and ice cream is around 70 percent. In 2017 there were 115 branches and almost 3,000 specialty frozen vehicles in Germany, with which around 2.5 million households were supplied. The frozen food market share was 10.6%. Bofrost is represented in twelve European countries with 243 branches, supplies around 4.1 million households and employs 10,735 people with 5583 frozen food vehicles (as of February 2017).

Furthermore, Bofrost is in competition with online retailers such as amazon . A competitor in direct sales in Germany is the Eismann frozen home service . There are also some regional providers.

Product labeling

Bofrost introduced the Nutri-Score system at the beginning of 2020 ; this gives an overall evaluation of the respective product based on the nutritional values ​​and ingredients and provides guidance for the consumer as to whether the product contributes to a balanced diet.

criticism

In 2012, Bofrost received the negative Big Brother Award for his dealings with the works councils . Bofrost had illegally accessed files belonging to a works council and installed remote control software on another works council's computer.

Awards

Bofrost has received several awards for the sustainability of its packaging. In 2015, for example, with the DFTA Innovation Award. The independent institute Cyclos-HTP also certified the folding boxes, wrappers and polybags in 2017.

In 2016, the German Institute for Service Quality recognized the online shop as the third best online shop in Germany in the food category. In the survey, customers rated a total of 42 companies, among other things with regard to offer, customer service and website.
