EU border crossing France - Switzerland

The N201 is a French national road that was established in 1860 between Chambéry and the Swiss border near Geneva . Their length was 76.5 kilometers. From 1923 to 1978 it gave the approximately 1 kilometer long stretch from Saint-Julien-en-Genevois to the border to the extended N92. In 1949 it swapped the route between Chambéry and Aix-les-Bains with the N491. This also increased its length by 1 kilometer. In 2006 the N201 was downgraded to the connection of the A41 through Chambéry.

N201a

The N201 A was a branch of the N201, which went into operation in 1974 as the first section of an expressway through Chambéry. In 1978 the N201 was relocated to this. The entire expressway was completed in 1983. Since 2006, it has been the only road that is still signposted as the N201. At the south end it goes straight into the A41; At the north end it goes straight into the D1201 - there it goes over a junction with a toll station to a junction of the A41 and A43, which change their numbers there in a straight line. A new connection to the A41 for transit traffic is currently planned.

N501

The N501 , which existed from 1978 to 2006, was a side branch of the N201 that passed through Annecy to the west. Today it bears the number D1501 and the name Boulevard de la rocade .
