Current course of the road

The current national route 147 only runs between Poitiers and Limouges, which is part of the route it was laid out in 1824.

Historic course of the road

The historic national road 147 was laid between Saumur and Limoges in 1824. It goes back to the route impériale 167. Its total length was therefore 217.5 kilometers in the years 1824 to 1973. In 1973 it was extended to Angers and the total length increased to 268 kilometers. It replaced the national road 152 between Angers and Saumur, only that its guide led over the route of the national road 138 to Longué-Jumelles and from there on high-level departmental roads. In addition, the road between Saumur and Loudun was led via Montreuil-Bellay . For this purpose the national roads 138 and  761 were rededicated:

  • D 61 Angers - Monceau (briefly N138)
  • D 4 Monceau - Longué-Jumelles (briefly N138)
  • N 138 Longué-Jumelles - Saumur
  • N 138 Saumur - Montreuil-Bellay
  • N 761 Montreuil-Bellay - Loudun
  • N 147 Loudun - Limouges

In 2006 the section between Angers and Poitiers was downgraded .
