The Route nationale 431 , or N 431 or RN 431 for short , was a French national road .

The street number was first added to the national road network in 1933. Until 1973 the route led from an intersection with the RN 83 in Cernay to an intersection with the RN 430 in Le Markstein .

Their total length was 30 kilometers. On its route, the national road crossed several passes . The highest pass is 1323 meters above sea level. It is part of the Route des Crêtes .

In the meantime, the street number has been assigned for an expressway that bypasses Metz to the south-east. It is an extension of the A315 car route and leads to the A31 car route .
