Transport of components for the Airbus A380 on the "Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit"

The Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit ( large-capacity transport route ) is a continuous chain of French national roads , the road than on the 2004 heavy transport from Bordeaux via the port of Lagnon the Airbus plant in Blagnac leads. It was created for the bulky components of the Airbus A380 . The road sections of national roads 124224524 and  542 serve as the route  .

The route to the Airbus plant near Toulouse is designed in such a way that a package up to 14 meters high, 8 meters wide and 50 meters long can be transported.

Transports

The aircraft parts, which are manufactured in various Airbus factories, are initially shipped over the sea, then to Langon over the Garonne . There they are loaded onto six trucks (one each for the two wings, the three parts of the fuselage and the horizontal stabilizer) and driven along the Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit to the A380 plant in Blagnac.

The transport is usually spread over three nights, during the day the trucks are parked at specially built and fenced rest areas in Eauze and L'Isle Jourdain. During the transports, the road is blocked in sections, there are permanently signposted alternative routes and permanently installed information screens that provide information on the current status.

Course of the road

The Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit largely consists of existing streets, but numerous minor modifications were necessary, for example curve radii were enlarged and bridges crossing the route were built.

N 524

Today's Route nationale 524 , or N 524 for short , forms the first part of the "Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit".

The national road was made up of various departmental roads in 2004 to serve as part of the transport route for components for the Airbus A380 between the port of Langon and the Airbus plant in Toulouse . It runs from the port of Langon to south of Eauze , where the transport route continues on national road 124 . Some of the departmental roads were national roads until 1973. The sections of the N 524 were composed of the following roads:

N 124

A section of Route nationale 124 , or N 124 for short, which still exists today , forms the second part of the "Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit".

This part is used for the heavy transports to the Airbus plant. This is the route that has been laid down for the road since 1824, which has been expanded into an expressway in sections and also bypasses places. The heavy haulage section begins south of Eauze , where national road 524 joins national road 124 and continues to the start of the western bypass of L'Isle-Jourdain with national road 224 as a continuation.

N 224

Today's Route nationale 224 , or N 224 for short , forms the last part of the "Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit".

The national road starts at L'Isle-Jourdain . From there it runs over the western bypass of L'Isle-Jourdain towards Sainte-Livrade.

While the national road 224 runs through the town center, the heavy haulage runs via a southern bypass, which is designated as national road 542 , which is a developed municipal road and dirt road . In the city road is the former department Straße 42 B .

The national road 224 then runs further northeast to Monaigut-sur-Save and from there east-southeast to Mondonville . From there begins a new building road that leads to the northern edge of the factory premises. The heavy haulage branches off the N 224 between Lévignac and Montaigut-sur-Save on the developed municipal roads and join the N 224 east of Mondonville again to bypass the last two places. The bypass is closed to motorized traffic and can be used with bicycles.

From 1978 to 2001 there was another national road 224. This was the east bypass of Le Mans . This street was graduated with the opening of the Autobahn 28 and is now designated as Départementstrasse 20 Bis .

N 542

The Route nationale 542 is a short section of the "Itinéraire à Grand Gabarit", which bypasses the town of Sainte-Livrade to the south and is used by heavy haulage, while the National Road 224 , to which the N 542 connects at both ends, runs through the place.

logistics

Logistical routes for the Airbus A380

Large parts for the Airbus are transported in various ways, including the Airbus Beluga as air transport. However, many parts are shipped, with transport from and to the port also being carried out by road in other countries. However, these oversized and heavy transports do not reach the dimensions of the route to final assembly in southern France.

The production and logistics of the A380 include sub-components from other Airbus locations. The wings , fuselage section 18 as well as the bow section 13 and part of section 15 from Hamburg-Finkenwerder ( D ), the cockpit section 11 from Nantes ( F ), the center fuselage section 15 from Saint-Nazaire ( F ), come from Broughton ( GB ) Vertical stabilizer from Stade (D), the horizontal stabilizer from Getafe ( E ), the flight control from Toulouse (F). Glare components for the outer skin are manufactured in Bremen (D) and Nordenham (D) .

Individual evidence

  1. Grand Gabarit = large format, here large clearance profile + Itinéraire = route, corresponding to the route description for heavy transports
  2. The German term "Großraumtransportstrecke" is established for the route from the Airbus plant in Ravensburg to the port of Heilbronn .
