The N580 was laid down in 1933 between the N101 southeast of Barjac and Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. Their total length was 55 kilometers. Until 1933 the road was the Gc43 of the Gard department. In 1979, it was routed to the N100 west of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon via a new road that branched off at Saint-Geniès-de-Comolas and was previously labeled as the N480. In addition, the section northwest of Bagnols-sur-Cèze was graduated. In 2006 the new section between the A9 and the N100 was graded.
