The Route nationale 98 , or N 98 or RN 98 for short , is a French national road that was established between Toulon and Saint-Tropez in 1824. It goes back to the route impériale 117. Their length was 62 kilometers. In 1870 it was taken from Les Marines-de-Cogolin to Fréjus. The piece to Saint-Tropez remained part of the N98 (as a side branch), but was not given its own number until 1933. The length increased to 87 kilometers, as well as 5 kilometers for the branch to Saint-Tropez. In 1933 it was extended to Mandelieu-la-Napoule. To do this, it took over the route of the N7, which was removed from the coastal road and led through the Massif de L'Esterel. The total length of the N98 was then 123 kilometers. In 1978 the N98 took over several sections from the N559, as well as the N559 C and then ran to Roquebrune-Cap-Martin:
- N 98 Toulon - La Napoule
- N 559 La Napoule - Cannes
- interrupted by the N7
- N 559 Golfe-Juan - Antibes
- N 559 C Antibes
- N 559 Antibes - N7
- interrupted by the N7
- N 559 Nice - Roquebrune-Cap-Martin
In 2006 it was downgraded and now only exists as an extension of the A570 to Hyères.
