The N84 was a French national road that was established in 1824 between Meximieux and the Swiss border near Geneva . It goes back to the route impériale 102. Their length was 112 kilometers. In 1843 it took over the section between Crépieux-la-Pape and Meximieux from the N83. The length increased to 139.5 kilometers. From 1937 to 1970, the numbered main road 46 to Geneva connected to the Swiss border. In 1973 the section between the Rhôneengestelle Défile de l'Ecluse and the Swiss border was graduated. In 1978, the N206 took over the section between Bellegarde-sur-Valserine and the Défile de l'Ecluse and the route of the N84 was varied somewhat:

  • N 84 A Meximieux - Saint-Denis-en-Bugey
  • interrupted by N75
  • New construction route Pont-d'Ain-le Blanchon - Neuville-sur-Ain-Bosseron
  • N 84 Neuville-sur-Ain-Bosseron - Bellegarde-sur-Valserine

In 2006 the national road was graduated.

The N84 A was a French national road that was built in 1890 as a connection between the N84 and the N206. The description of this street is located in the separate article N84 A . From 1933 to 1973 it existed as a side branch of the N84, which branched off from this in Meximieux and ran to Saint-Denis-en-Bugey. Their length was 11.5 kilometers. In 1978 it became part of the new management of the N84.
