The Route National 72 , just north 72 or RN 72 , was a French national road .

The road ran from 1824 to 1973 from a junction with the former national road 5 in Mont-sous-Vaudrey to Pontarlier . It goes back to route 90 impériale. Its length at that time was 71 kilometers. In 1981 the name reappeared for a two-kilometer connection from national road 6 to motorway 6 north of Mâcon . In 2006 it was downgraded to Departementsstrasse . This motorway connection is now called D 672.
