The Route nationale 48 , shortly N 48 or RN 48 , was a French national road .
The national road was established in 1824 between Valenciennes and the Belgian border at Péruwelz , where it is extended to Belgian national road 60 . It goes back to route 51 impériale. Their length was 18.5 kilometers.
In 1973 the national road was graduated over its full length. In 1978, the national road 347 C between Aix-Noulette and Avion , which was developed as an expressway and runs around Lens to the north and east, was signposted as national road 48. In the same year, the section between Aix-Noulette and Lens was rededicated as the C26 motorway. This has been part of Autobahn 21 since 1982 . The remaining section between Lens and Avion has been signposted as Autobahn 211 since 1981 .
