The N43 is a French national road that was established in 1824 between Calais and the N29 near Bouchain . It goes back to route 50 impériale. Until 1973 it was 132.5 kilometers long. In 1973 it was graduated between Auberchicourt and the N29. In 1978 the N45 took over the section between Douai and Auberchicourt and the N43 was led via a new route to the N3 in Sainte-Ruffine-Maison-Neuve:

- N 17 Douai - Cambrai
- N 39 A within Cambrai
- N 39 Cambrai - Tremblois-lès-Rocroi
- N 51 Tremblois-lès-Rocroi - Charleville-Mézières
- N 64 Charleville-Mézières - Villers-Semeuse

- N 64 Villers-Semeuse - Douzy
- N 381 Douzy - Montmédy
- N 47 Montmédy - Longuyon
- N 381 Longuyon - junction with N52bis

Since 2006, only the section between Tremblois-lès-Rocroi and the A34 and from the A34 at Sedan to the junction of the N58 is left. The former is to be replaced by the A304 by 2016.

The N43 A was a side branch of the N43 from 1933 to 1973, which branched off from it in Auberchicourt and led to Rouvignies. Their length was 15.5 kilometers. In 1978 it became part of the N45.

The N43 B was a side branch of the N43 from 1933 to 1973, which branched off from it in Aire-sur-la-Lys and led to Morbecque. The length was 10.5 kilometers.
N43c
The N43 C was from 1958 to 1968 a side branch of the N43, which was an alternative western approach road to Béthune. The N43 was moved to it and the old route became the D181 E8 .
N1043
The N1043 existed as several branches of the N43, which were bypasses for Sedan, Hirson and Cambrai. They were downgraded to Sedan 2006, which is now part of the A34.
