Annezin is a French municipality with 5898 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region Nord-Pas-de-Calais ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Béthune and the Canton of Béthune . The inhabitants are called Annezinois (es) .
geography
Annezin lies on the banks of the Lawe River , which borders the municipality to the east. Annezin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Hinges in the north, Locon and Essars in the northeast, Béthune in the east, Fouquereuil in the south, Labeuvrière and Chocques in the southwest and Vendin-lès-Béthune in the west.
The Route nationale 43 runs through the municipality .
history
The water mills in Annezin an der Lawe are mentioned as early as 1095. A castle complex existed since the 12th century and was rebuilt in 1555. From 1850 coal mines were built here in the mining industry.
