Douvrin (nld: Doverin ) is a French municipality with 5407 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region Nord-Pas-de-Calais . It belongs administratively to the Arrondissement of Béthune and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of the same name Douvrin .
geography
Douvrin is located between the cities of Lens and Lille on the Canal d'Aire . Douvrin is surrounded by the neighboring communities of La Bassée and Salomé in the north, Billy-Berclau in the east, Wingles in the southeast, Hulluch in the south and Haisnes in the west.
The National Route 47 runs through the municipality .
history
The settlement has existed since the 11th century. Coal mining began in the middle of the 19th century. Motor vehicles have been manufactured here since the second half of the 20th century.
