Laventie (ndl .: Wentie ) is a French commune with 4994 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hauts-de-France region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Béthune in the department of Pas-de-Calais and the canton of Beuvry and was the capital of the canton of Laventie until its dissolution in 2015 .

history
Laventie used to be the capital of the L'Alloeu region .
On December 28, 1941, a serious railway accident occurred between Laventie and La Gorgue when two trains collided here on the Nantes – La Roche-sur-Yon railway . 56 people died and 40 were also injured.
Partnerships
From 1967 to 1974 there was a partnership with the former municipality of Sümmern . With the incorporation of Sümmerns into the city of Iserlohn , the city partnership was transferred to Iserlohn in 1975.
