Witternesse ( Flemish : Witernes ) is a French municipality with 587 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Béthune and the canton of Aire-sur-la-Lys (until 2015: Canton of Norrent-Fontes ) and is a member of the Béthune-Bruay commune , Artois-Lys Romane . The inhabitants are called Witternessois .
geography
Witternesse is about 21 kilometers west-northwest of Béthune . Witternesse is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Aire-sur-la-Lys in the north, Lambres in the east, Quernes in the south, Liettres in the southwest and Blessy in the west.
The Autoroute A26 runs along the southwestern edge of the municipality.
