Violaines is a French municipality with 3667 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Pas-de-Calais in the region Nord-Pas-de-Calais . The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Béthune and the canton of Douvrin . The inhabitants are called Violainais (es) .

geography

The Canal d'Aire , a section of the large shipping route Dunkirk-Scheldt , runs through Violaines, a former mining community . Violaines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Richebourg in the north and northwest, Lorgies in the north and northeast, La Bassée in the east, Haisnes in the southeast, Auchy-les-Mines in the south, Vermelles and Cuinchy in the southwest, Givenchy-lès-la-Bassée in the west and southwest and Festubert in the west.

The former Route nationale 41 (today's D941) and the former Route nationale 47 (today's D947) run through the municipality .
