La Bassée is around 25 kilometers southwest of Lille . The place is surrounded by wetlands and forests. It is located on the N47 and the Canal d'Aire or on the major shipping route Dunkirk-Scheldt .

history

In the Middle Ages , the place was secured with a fortification, which included several bastions . During the First World War , the Loretto Battle took place nearby .

Attractions

Sights include the church dedicated to Saint Vedast (Saint-Vaast), which consists of a neo-Gothic tower with a modern nave.
