Faches-Thumesnil is a French municipality with 17,835 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France on the border with Belgium around Lille . The municipality has been the capital of the canton of Faches-Thumesnil since 2015 , before it belonged to the canton of Lille-Sud-Est .
The preferred form of living are one to two-family houses, which are mostly built from white limestone that was quarried in the area.
history
The history of the city goes back to the 10th century. Faches is first mentioned in a deed of donation from 1104, Thumesnil for the first time in 1184 in a list of goods. The kings of Estimaux ruled over Faches until the French Revolution . In 1846 the railway reached the villages - the station was given the double name even then. In 1913 Faches and Thumesnil merged to form today's city.

In addition to sports facilities for all areas, Faches-Thumesnil has a modern, versatile cultural center. Club life is very lively with 8,000 members in around 110 clubs.
