Prémesques (NDL .: "Permeke") is a French commune in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality has 2130 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and is part of the arrondissement of Lille . Prémesques also belongs to the canton of Armentières .

Etymology and history

Prémesques was  first mentioned in writing in 1143 as " Primeca ", which is probably derived from the Latin " Primiacum  " and goes back to the male given name Primius .

During the First World War , the British - German Front was very close, and the associated fighting caused great destruction in Prémesques.
