geography
The municipality is located in the metropolitan area south of Lille , about seven kilometers from the city center. history
The place was first mentioned as Watteniis in 1076. The church of Saint-Lambert was built in the pre-Gothic period. With the second crusade the church was expanded. The first château was built in the 12th century, another at the beginning of the 17th century (around 1610). In 1708 the battle of Lille took place here as part of the War of the Spanish Succession. In 1793 the Battle of Wattignies was fought in the First Coalition War . In 1846 the Paris-Lille line was built. This also gave Wattignies (with the neighboring town of Templemars ) a train station.
