Templeuve-en-Pévèle is a French commune with 6,059 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Lille and has been the capital of the Canton Templeuve (previously Cysoing ) since the reorganization of the French cantons . The municipality is also a member of the Pévèle-Carembault municipal association . The inhabitants are called Templeuvois .
geography
The Marque River limits the municipality to the north. Templeuve is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Péronne-en-Mélantois in the north, Louvil and Cysoing in the northeast, Genech in the east, Nomain in the southeast, Cappelle-en-Pévèle in the south, Mérignies in the southwest, Ennevelin in the west and Fretin in the northwest.
The A23 autoroute runs through the municipality from Lille to Valenciennes .
history
The name of the place goes back to templum iovis (Latin for temple of Iupiter ). Such a Roman temple is said to have stood on the site of today's Saint-Martin church. 877 the name templovium is proven.
