Andreas S. Schulz

Andreas S. Schulz (* 1969 ) is a German mathematician and economist who deals with operations research . He is a professor at the Technical University of Munich , where he heads the chair for Operations Research.

Life

Schulz was scholar of the Foundation of the German people and in 1996 at the Technical University of Berlin with Rolf Möhring (* 1948) graduated ( polytope and Scheduling ). For his dissertation he received the Carl Ramsauer Prize and the Dissertation Prize of the German Society for Mathematics, Econometrics and Operations Research (GMÖOR). In 1998 he became a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he holds the Patrick J. McGovern Chair of Management . He is there at the MIT Sloan School of Management , where he led the Operations Research and Statistics department, and at the MIT Operations Research Center.

Among other things, he was visiting professor at the University of British Columbia , at the ETH Zurich , at the Technical University of Eindhoven and the University of Maastricht and in 2011 and 2013 with a Humboldt Research Award at the TU Berlin.

In 2014 he was offered a Humboldt Professorship at the Technical University of Munich.

He deals with operations research, working interdisciplinary with economics, and especially with algorithmic game theory, combinatorial optimization, approximation algorithms, complexity theory, integer programming, network flows, scheduling theory and combinatorics of polyhedra.

He is one of the founding members of the Young Academy of the Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences. In 2008 he received a Best Paper Award from INFORMS and in 2006 the Glover Klingman Prize.
