Pérenchies is a French city in the Arrondissement of Lille , in the Nord department and in the Hauts-de-France region . It has 8,424 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) on an area of only three square kilometers.
geography
The city of Pérenchies is located in the Lille area , near the Belgian border.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1101. A Celtic settlement probably existed centuries before .
The community lived mainly from agriculture until industrialization began in 1836 with a large textile factory .
During the First World War , the place was occupied by German troops in October 1914, who set up a base camp for the front line just 2 km away. Pérenchies was not liberated until October 1918.
