Thumeries is a French commune .
Geographical location
Thumeries is 4.85 kilometers to the northeast of Oignies , in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France .
Residents
The community has 3,900 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). They call themselves Thumerisien (ne) s.

history
The earliest surviving mention of Thumeries comes from 1187 and is found in a bull by Pope Celestine III. In it he confirmed that Thumeries was a fiefdom of the cathedral chapter saint Piat in Seclin .
On February 17, 1948 occurred in the railway station a serious of Thumeries railway accident : you leave the station collided a freight and a passenger train. 22 people died and 30 were also injured.
economy
A large part of the population works in agriculture. Local products are
- Sugar beet and sugar (there is a sugar factory in the community ),
 - Cereals and
 - Vegetables.
 
Attractions
The Château Blanc (white castle) was built in 1541. It is privately owned today.
