Linselles ( Dutch : Linzele ) is a French municipality with 8371 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France .

The municipality is located around 15 kilometers north of the city of Lille near the border with Belgium and is part of the European metropolitan region of Lille .
It is surrounded by the municipalities (clockwise from the north) Wervicq-Sud , Bousbecque , Roncq , Quesnoy-sur-Deûle , Wambrechies , Bondues and Comines .

history

The place was probably mentioned for the first time in 867 in a document from Charles the Bald . In 1114 the Latin name Lencelam is mentioned.

The Nativité de Notre Dame (Virgin Mary's Birth) Church was built from 1923 to 1926 . The old church was blown up in 1918, at the end of the First World War , by German troops in retreat.

Town twinning

The community has had a town partnership with the former Schiefbahn community since 1966 , which has been part of the new town of Willich ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) since 1970 , which took over the partnership. Since 1991 there has also been a partnership with Zogoré ( Burkina Faso ).
