Etymology and history
The place name Wambrechies probably goes back to a Germanic field name Wambreck , with the syllable -breck being a reference to fallow land . The first written mention of Wambrechies can be found in a document from 1110 on the transfer of altar income from Wambrechies to the Collegiate Chapter Saint-Pierre in Lille , signed by the Bishop of Tournai .
