Roncq ( Flemish : Ronk ) is a French municipality with 13,388 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . The inhabitants are called Roncquoise .

geography

The municipality is located in the Lille metropolitan area , near the Belgian border. Neighboring communities are Halluin in the north, Neuville-en-Ferrain in the east, Tourcoing in the south-east, Bondues in the south, Linselles in the west and Bousbecque in the north-west.
The A22 car route runs on the east side of the village and can be reached via junction 16 - Roncq .

history

The place was first mentioned as Runch in 1055 . The current name first appeared in the books of the Marquette Abbey in 1330. The Battle of Tourcoing in the First Coalition War in 1794 also affected the municipality.
