Phalempin is a French commune with a population of 4,729 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . Phalempin belongs to the Arrondissement of Lille and the Canton of Annœullin . The inhabitants are called Phalempinois (es) .
geography
Phalempin, the former capital of the historic Carembault region , is about 13 kilometers south of Lille and 17 kilometers north of Lens . Phalempin is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Seclin in the north, Attiches in the east, La Neuville in the southeast, Wahagnies in the south, Libercourt in the southwest, Camphin-en-Carembault in the west and Chemy in the northwest.
Phalempin station is on the Paris – Lille line .
history
In 1039, the Saint-Christophe Abbey was founded by Phalempin and destroyed in the revolutionary years between 1789 and 1795.
