Carbon Based Lifeforms , or CBL for short , is a Swedish ambient music duo consisting of Johannes Hedberg (* 1976) and Daniel Segerstad (* 1976, born in Ringström) from Gothenburg .

Hedberg and Segerstad founded the band in Gothenburg in 1996 as a side project of their band Notch. Under the band name Notch, they released the album The Path in 1998 . However, after a while, Carbon Based Lifeforms became their main focus. Carbon Based Lifeforms' first releases were made in 1998 on MP3.com . In 2002 they signed a record deal with Ultimae Records. Five albums and one EP were released there.

Her music style includes ambient , downtempo , psybient and chill-out music. Among other things, they use the Roland TB-303 synthesizer for their productions.
