Capinghem (NDL .: "Kampingem") is a French commune in the department of Nord in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality has 2495 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) and is part of the arrondissement of Lille . Capinghem is also part of the Armentières canton and the Métropole Européenne de Lille commune .

The municipality of Capinghem extends over an area of 1.86 km² .
Neighboring municipalities of Capinghem are Prémesques in the north, Lomme in the east and Ennetières-en-Weppes in the south and west.
Etymology and history
Capinghem was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1124 as " Camping ", it is probably a place name of Germanic origin, which is supposed to mean " Wohnplatz von Campe " or " Wohnplatz von Campo ".
During the First World War , the British - German front was very close by, and 95% of Capinghem was destroyed by the accompanying fighting.

- The Saint-Vaast church . The church building was rebuilt in 1928 on the ruins of the neo-Gothic predecessor church built in 1852 , which was destroyed during the First World War.
